Sketchbook 2021-2022
Observational Drawings
Left Page: I did an observational drawing of my gouache container in marker.
Right Page: I did an observational drawing of my planner in graphite and added flowers in the background with crayon
Observational Drawings
Left Page: I had done some experimenting with forms using watercolors on watercolor paper and then glued the page into my sketchbook.
Right Page: We did observational drawings of a wheel barrow in class and afterward I jazzed up the graphite drawing with watercolor brush pens- I love their texture.

Overtop of both pages I printed out pictures of an artist whose work I like and inspires me. The artist's website is https://www.autumnalwood.com/shop
Observational Drawings
Left Page: We had done observational drawings in class of a stool with instruments leaning against it.
Right Page: We went to the Hirshorn and the National Gallery of art in December and our assignment was to find things that inspired us and record it in our sketchbooks.

Afterward, I glued in three pictures of another artist whose work I like, their website is https://beacons.page/artizblue. I also used these pages to experiment with watercolor texture and my calligraphy pen. So I went over everything in the pen and filled in all the cracks with the watercolor.
Reflection Page
Left Page: The flower border was done in oil pastels and marker and the reflection was for one of my paintings.
Right Page: I wanted to experiment with drawing different expressions and faces so I chose to use line art to do this. Then I layered oil pastel and paint overtop to make everything pop and so it would match the left page.
Observational Drawings
Left Page: For Easter we did an observational drawing of stuffed peeps.
Right Page: We had done an observational drawing of stuff a girl in another class had in her attic- it was a compilation of random objects- and on the bottom I wrote out my Socratic seminar questions. In the top right corner is an invitation to a senior's art show, featuring a picture of their work on the front.

Later, I went over both pages and glued in some notes and drawings and colored in the peeps sketch and other observational drawing. I went over everything with oil pastel and marker flowers to make the pages cohesive.
Curiosity Spread
Left Page: I printed out pictures of an artist whose work I love and who does really incredible landscapes. Here I was specifically studying water so I chose some of their paintings and some more famous paintings by artists like Monet.
Right Page: Since I had gotten into landscapes I needed to learn how to paint water so I took some notes on "how did Monet paint his water lily garden?"
Play Pages
Left Page: On watercolor paper I had drawn the flowers, sun and mushrooms using colored pencil and watercolor brush pens. Then I cut them out, drew on the page with the same materials and layered the cut outs over top
Right Page: On another piece of paper I had drawn those little pictures using watercolor and pen then I cut them out and used hot glue to paint on the fragments, then painted the edges gold. In the background I fingerpainted flowers with acrylic paint and used more hot glue accents.
Play Pages
Left Page: On the left we had done some observational drawings of animal skeletons, which I did in pen and layered over one another.
Right Page: On the right we had an assignment to write one hundred adjectives that describe our art- I only got to 60 something- but there was a lot of white space so I drew overtop

I went over both pages at the same time and using crayon, paint and watercolor made a pretty cohesive spread.
Planning Page
Left Page: This page was to plan for my Ginter Cottage painting, I used some of the markers we got at Plaza so it would be pretty.
Right Page: I cut out and glued in some drawings that I had done in another sketchbook. I made sure they all matched the left page and took care to layer them in an aesthetic way.
Curiosity Spread
Left Page: I printed out a bunch of famous fauvism paintings as examples for myself of what it looked like and then annotated them.
Right Page: I took a very long time doing that header and then took some notes and did research to answer the question of how I could apply fauvist methods to my work.
Figure Drawings
Left Page: In our class, every time we met a different person would pose on top of a table and everyone else would have 5 minutes to figure draw them. On this page I drew Cameron.
Right Page: This is Olivia, a senior who graduated, and I gave he fairy wings afterward because she had been wearing a flower crown that day and generally brought to mind a fairy.

Over both pages, I taped in flowers from school.
