So I started on my first landscape painting this week. For the style of painting I wanted to do I did a bright base coat and wanted to leave some textured edges because I'm gonna leave some parts of the canvass unpainted for composition and negative space. Then I started with an underpainting of the horizon line, the ground and the gazebo without really doing much planning beforehand. Then I went in loosely and gesturally with the tree branches, just trying to map them out and capture their movement which I think I did pretty well. I really liked going back in and painting in between the branches and I like the effect it creates which is why I did the base of orange. I still have to paint all the leaves, finish the branches and gazebo and do the ground. Right now it's still definitely and underpainting but I like how its looking.
