Experience Post on Theodora Miller

I really enjoyed watching her lecture. She was a great storyteller, as well as artist and I think that since her work holds such a meaningful place in her life, it makes it so much more special. After having done some abstract painting myself, to hear her talk about making art for yourself, and being intuitive and not going into it with an expectation, really resonated with me. For my work especially, being intuitive is very important to me so to see the same practices in someone else was very nice. I also LOVED how she talked about using her leftover pallet paint in her paintings because she thought it was beautiful. It's so weird because I save all of my colored pencil shavings and peeled-off dried pallet paint in a little jar just for that purpose. It really inspired me to try to do more abstract pieces in the future using that technique. Thinking back on it, I also really appreciate how she uses a variety of sizes for her canvasses or wood panels; it makes thinking about doing abstract again not as intimidating.
