Abstract Expressionist Post 1

So this is the result of my day one of painting. There is a little more paint on the canvas than there should be for a first layer but I kind of did a second layer as well to make sure I finish on time. I'm also not patient enough to step away from the canvas and let it dry after putting on the first coat. I was really trying to utilize different techniques and was mostly intuitive with how I put the paint on the canvas. I would say it definitely looks chaotic and sporadic but that was how I applied it. I started with a base of that cream color and first applied it with my large brush and then I just squirted the paint colors I used to mix that yellowy beige from the bottle, onto the canvas and took a butter knife and spread them together. I used that technique with the read too and I also finger painted and thinned some of my colors with water. I was mostly just trying to cover up any white spots or blank canvas that I saw. I am planning on doing a more controlled layer next and expanding my color palette and just blocking in areas with color in ambiguous shapes and then maybe doing some subtractive painting like in Jackson Pollock's She-Wolf because I don't want this painting to be super busy.
